SCWEN Fellowship Program
Since 2014, SCWEN has been providing leadership development, mentorship, resources, and opportunities for them to give back to their communities and empower one another with a very small founding team.
Now, our executive team is looking to increase the capacity of the organization while providing meaningful leadership pathways for the next generation.
The new SCWEN Fellowship Program will be another way of providing African, Muslim women with the tools they need to achieve their future goals. As a fellow, you will work closely with a member of our leadership team in the areas of grant writing/non-profit management, social media/website, and event/program coordinating to help advance SCWEN’s strategic vision for the year.
Applications for our current cohort are currently closed. Stay tuned for the launch of cohort 2 in January 2027.
Meet Our Current Fellows:
Rana Ibrahim Aboomar
Executive Track
Rana worked in nonprofit programming for six years and fundraising for two years. As NY Program Director at America Needs You, Rana managed the New York mentorship program and the NY Associate Board. Beginning her nonprofit career in programming, she grew to enjoy nonprofit development and working with boards to achieve fundraising goals. Rana joins the SCWEN Fellowship prepared to learn from and deliver for an organization whose mission aligns with her values.
Hulamatou Dukureh
Finance/Fundraising Track
Hulamatou Dukureh is the Grants and Development Assistant at MDRC where she provides administrative support related to fundraising as well as researching new fundraising and partnership opportunities. With diverse experiences in nonprofit management, youth mentorship and the arts, she most recently has provided project support for a higher education in prison initiative. Throughout her professional journey across her home state of New Jersey, Hulamatou has remained deeply committed to advancing educational equity for low income and immigrant communities.
Hulamatou holds a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin & Marshall College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. In her spare time, she can be found at a sports game, taking city walks, or volunteering. She is excited to return to SCWEN as a fellow after serving as a Summer Program Assistant Intern in 2020!
Fatoumata Diallo
Media/Content Track
Fatou Diallo is a first-generation Guinean-Senegalese creative from Harlem, New York, whose work is rooted in storytelling, culture, and community. Whether through photography, media, or strategic communications, she is passionate about creating spaces where people feel represented and connected while celebrating the richness of African and Black experiences.
A recent graduate of Wake Forest University with a Master of Science in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Critical and Creative Media, Fatou has spent the past several years combining creativity with leadership through communications, cultural programming, and community engagement. She believes some of the most meaningful work happens when people use their talents to uplift others and strengthen their communities.
As a SCWEN Fellow, she looks forward to growing as a leader, supporting the organization's mission, and helping tell the stories that inspire and empower the next generation of African Muslim women.
Fatimata Cham
Programming Track
Fatimata Cham is a published poet, recruiter, and human rights advocate from the Bronx, New York. A first-generation Gambian-American, she graduated from Lafayette College with degrees in Government & Law and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies. She is a 2022 Truman Scholar, 2019 Coca-Cola Scholar, founder of Climate4Sisterhood, and former Girl Up Teen Advisor to the United Nations Foundation. Fatimata was the 2023 George Wharton Pepper Prize recipient, Lafayette College Commencement Speaker, and has been featured in *Dear…* on Apple TV+ alongside Malala Yousafzai for her climate activism. Through her poetry, advocacy, and community organizing, she works to advance equity, climate justice, and human rights while empowering the next generation of leaders.

Hawa Camara
Programming Track
Hawa Camara currently works full time as an Outreach and Enrollment Coordinator and is passionate about empowering girls in their education and professional goals. She believes that knowledge is a means of personal growth. As a SCWEN Fellow, she looks forward to growing alongside the community and learning to uplift and serve the community.

Pathways

Executive: support our Executive Director, Kujegi Camara with researching, writing, and applying for grants, connecting with donors, board of director development, organizing files/media, and developing/maintaining relationships with elected officials and community organizations.

Marketing/Media/Finance: Support our Deputy Director, Fatuma Hydara with social media content creation, maintaining our website, writing newsletters, and fundraising initiatives.

Programming: Support our Program Director, Fatou Waggeh, with planning and hosting our programs/events, including Girls Leadership Academy, Celebrating Success Gala, Annual Higher Education Consortium, and college access tours and initiatives.
